FAQ
Wood
What types of wood are suitable for my project?
Consider the characteristics of different wood species, such as hardness, durability, grain pattern, and color, to choose the best option for your specific project.
What grade of lumber should I choose?
Lumber is graded based on quality and appearance.
- #1 grade lumber is known for its superior quality, with fewer knots, splits, and defects compared to lower grades.
- #2 grade lumber is still of decent quality but may have more knots, blemishes, and defects compared to #1 grade.
- Utility grade lumber is the lowest grade and may have larger knots, splits, and more significant defects.
What is the difference between nominal and actual dimensions?
- Nominal dimensions refer to the rough size of a piece of lumber as it is commonly referred to in the industry. These dimensions are typically used for labeling and marketing purposes.
- Actual dimensions, also known as dressed or finished dimensions, refer to the exact size of a piece of lumber after it has been processed and finished.
